UK pork scheme to use CCTV to ensure animal welfare

A recent review of British Meat Processors’ Association (BMPA) Pork Scheme quality standards resulted in several changes, including the use of CCTV in areas of animal welfare.

The revised standards also include requirements on washing facilities for hauling vehicles and heightened audit and traceability requirements to help prevent food fraud, reported ThePigSite.

Products manufactured to BMPA standards carry the Red Tractor logo. Fresh pork, sausage, bacon, ham and cooked pork are covered under the BMPA Pork Scheme.ThePigStelogo

According to Stephen Rossides, BMPA director, the revisions align BMPA standards with the expectations of customers, retailers and scheme participants.

“Product quality is integral to the BMPA Pork Scheme and remains our cornerstone,” he said.
